Institution Overview:

The Institute of Polymers, Nanchang University was founded in 2004. In 2011, it was successfully approved as the Jiangxi Key Laboratory of New Energy Chemistry. In 2016, it obtained the approval of Jiangxi Engineering Laboratory of Polymers Energy Materials. In 2018, it was renamed the Institute of Polymers and Energy Chemistry, Nanchang University.

Led by Professor Chen Yiwang as the academic leader, the institute bases itself on the development of organic silicon rubber and new energy materials industries in Jiangxi. It conducts cutting-edge basic and applied research focusing on the key issues of high-performance elastomers, photoelectric conversion and energy storage devices.

At present, the key laboratory covers a floor area of 1,500 square meters with fixed assets of 80 million yuan. It has 5 professors, 6 doctoral supervisors, 12 teachers with doctoral degrees, as well as 5 engineering and administrative staff. More than 200 doctoral and master students have graduated or are currently studying here.

Its core research areas encompass the design and printing fabrication of flexible solar cells, flexible wearable photovoltaic devices, aqueous/alcohol-soluble processing of organic polymer solar cells and perovskite-based solar cells, organic polymer interfacial materials, transparent electrodes and their nano-devices based on flexible printing, flexible supercapacitors relying on thin-film electrodes, electrocatalytic materials for zinc-air batteries and fuel cells, as well as novel organosilicon elastomer functional materials.

The institute has published over 400 academic papers in internationally prestigious journals including Science.; Nat. Synth.; Nat. Commun.; J. Am. Chem. Soc.; Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.; Adv. Mater. Energy Environ. Sci. It has secured 30 authorized invention patents, undertaken and accomplished more than 30 national-level projects and over 40 provincial and ministerial-level projects, with a total project funding exceeding 25 million yuan. Additionally, the institute has successively been awarded 2 Second Prizes of the University Natural Science Award of China, 4 Second Prizes of the Jiangxi Provincial Natural Science Award, 1 Third Prize of the Jiangxi Provincial Technological Invention Award, and 3 Second Prizes of the Jiangxi Provincial Teaching Achievement Award.
