Introduction to the Department of Applied Chemistry


According to the new characteristics and trends in the advancement of chemistry, the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering established the Department of Applied Chemistry in 2014. With the goal of "consolidating the foundation while  developing applications", adhering to the leadership of the Party, building and focusing on talent cultivation, we are committed to building a platform that serves the development of the economy and place equal emphasis on teaching and research.

The current full-time teaching staff of the Applied Chemistry Department all have doctoral degrees, and many have overseas exchange backgrounds, forming a teaching and research team with national and provincial talents as the core.

The Department enrolls more than 120 undergraduates majoring in Applied Chemistry every year. The Applied Chemistry of the Department is selected as the first batch of national first-class undergraduate major and the first batch of 5-star major in Jiangxi Province. Based on the two doctoral degree authorization points, a complete training system for master's and doctoral degrees was constructed for the discipline of Chemistry and the discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology. The platforms such as Jiangxi Provincial Key Laboratory, Jiangxi Provincial Engineering Research Center and Mobile Postdoctoral Research Station have laid a solid foundation for cultivating high-end talents with solid professional knowledge, good professional application ability and innovative way of thinking.

       The Applied Chemistry Department has found  relatively stable research fields  according to the needs of economic development. The research of Energy and Environmental Catalysis Technology is committed to the development of new energy materials and the development and application of new nanocatalytic materials. Organic Functional Materials focus on the development and application of high-performance organic composite materials; Rare Earth Separation and Purification develops new technologies for extraction and crystallization separation and advanced synthesis technologies in order to solve the technical problems in the extraction and separation of rare earth metal resources and the manufacture and application of high-end materials in China. Analytical Testing and Computational Chemistry combines mathematics, statistics, and computer science and applies them to chemical and chemical engineering experiments, and it optimizes experimental conditions for chemical problems and chemical engineering problems, and extracts effective information from test data or experimental data to the greatest extent.

The Applied Chemistry Department adheres to the principle of “focusing on scientific research and serving the demand. Over the past five years, more than one hundred projects have been approved at the national, provincial and industrial levels, which accounts for tens of millions of yuan. In addition, hundreds of academic papers have been published in high-level academic journals. All these laid a foundation for the development of the disciplines of Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering and Technology.

As a branch of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the Applied Chemistry Department continues to promote its strength and working on its weakness,  to create first-class disciplines and first-class high-level school.
