Basic Chemistry Experiment Center

Fundamental Chemistry Laboratory & Teaching Center

In 2003, Nanchang University reorganized the four major fundamental laboratories of inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry, which were previously managed separately by the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Chemical Engineering, into the 'Fundamental Chemistry Laboratory & Teaching Center.' This center consists of 4 laboratory teaching sections, allowing for unified resource allocation and sharing. In September 2003, the university officially approved the establishment of the university-level 'Fundamental Chemistry Laboratory & Teaching Center.' In October 2005, it was designated as the Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Jiangxi Province. In the same year, the Basic Chemistry Teaching and       Research Department of the Medical School was incorporated into the Fundamental Chemistry Laboratory & Teaching Center.

The Fundamental Chemistry Laboratory & Teaching Center is responsible for the organization, teaching research, and laboratory management of fundamental chemistry experiments for undergraduate students across the university. It comprises four basic laboratory teaching sections: University Chemistry Experiment, Organic Chemistry Experiment, Physical Chemistry Experiment, and Instrumental Analysis Experiment. The center currently has 24 full-time staff members, including 14 with doctoral degrees. In addition, it receives teaching support from over 60 dedicated teachers from the Chemistry College, forming a teaching team with reasonable professional titles, educational backgrounds, and ages, high teaching proficiency, and strong research capabilities.

The laboratory area of the center is approximately 6000 square meters, with teaching instruments and equipment valued at around 30 million RMB. There are a total of 2678 sets of instrument stations. The center actively organizes laboratory teachers to participate in teaching research, integrating and optimizing teaching content in fundamental experimental courses. Emphasis is placed on designing and exploratory experimental projects to provide students with the freedom to explore the application of their learned knowledge and experimental techniques in solving practical problems. In the comprehensive chemistry experiment course, the main theme revolves around 'compound synthesis, structural characterization, and property determination.' This course selects comprehensive experimental projects, actively incorporating the latest research results of teachers into teaching experiments, and leveraging research advantages to promote experimental teaching. This allows students to experience the close integration of experimental teaching and cutting-edge research, facilitating a smooth transition from experimental learning to scientific research practice.

The Chemistry Laboratory & Teaching Center implements 'systematic, standardized, specialized, and scientific' management. Systematic management ensures that each member has clear job responsibilities. Standardized management sets specific and clear standards for each task. Specialized management requires each member to acquire the necessary professional skills for laboratory work, increasing work efficiency. Scientific management demands that staff pursue the most suitable methods and approaches during work to enhance the rationality of their work. The combination of the 'four types' of management along with center culture construction ensures that the center possesses an efficient and high-level full-time technical team.
